Theme Shows on the Closer To The Edge Tour

Ready your costumes, because Thirty Seconds To Mars will be adding theme nights to the Closer To The Edge Tour! Which show(s) are you going to and what theme would you want to participate in? Check out the list below and let us know on twitter with the hashtag #MARSTHEMENIGHTS. Keep an eye out for the theme night polls!

WHITE NIGHT – A classic. This now legendary old school MARS theme night is alive and well. Don your whites and keep it tough. Think G8 protester meets gutterpunk but instead of black its white. The white is a great canvas. Write handwritten messages (think ST album art) or paint Mars icons and symbols where you see fit. White face paint is always recommended!

YUPPIE/ PREPPY NIGHT – Grab your fav pink shirt, an Izod (collar up of course), a paisley tie, a pair of loafers and some chinos and come ready to par-tay! Note: don’t forget the important distinction between yuppie and preppy. Mixing the two is dangerous and not advised.

DOCTOR/PATIENT/MEDICAL NIGHT – Nurses, Dr.’s, surgical gear, or bring the entire bed and lie down in it (IVs and blood are optional but encouraged!)

SPORT NIGHT – From football to fencing, baseball to skiing, wrestling to tennis. If it’s competitive, it’s cool. Get super sporty and show yer skillz.

ZOMBIE NIGHT – Blood, guts, gore and good times. The dead come alive. A giant Zombie walk is a must and WILL become a future YouTube phenom!

80s NIGHT – Remember the 80s? If not, hit the ‘net kids. Research is a must! Watch Pretty in Pink, 16 Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, St Elmo’s Fire, Less Than Zero, and anything with Molly Ringwald for reference.

PROM NIGHT – Ahh nostalgia, for those that never made it now’s your chance. Bad suits and even worse dresses are mandatory. The bigger, brighter and fluffier the better! School dance madness!

BLOODBALL NIGHT – The legendary first theme night returns. An homage to “The Kill”. Come bloodied and dress as though you have escaped from “The Kill” video itself. Blood booth on premises for those who are low on the good stuff.

GOTH/PUNK NIGHT – Bring your MarsHawks, combat boots, girl and guy-liner, fishnets, p/leather jackets, studs, tattoos and more. Safety pins through the cheek not suggested due to health and safety codes.

FIELD & STREAM – Calling all Hunters, Trappers, Fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts. This is your time to shine! Come camouflaged and ready to explore….Into the Wild!!!

THIS IS WAR/MILITARY NIGHT – A call to arms! Army, Marines, Air Force, and Navy outfits are welcome. Either full dress or battlefield fatigues. PT starts at 7am ladies and germs…and hey, what’s your major malfunction numbnuts!!! Extra credit for shaved heads…esp on the ladies.

HURRICANE NIGHT – Dress in the Theme of the video. As your favorite character. Or just full on bondage S+M! Freaks, Fiends, and Perverts welcomed!!!

SUPERHERO/COMIC NIGHT – Never been done at a MARS show! It’ll be quite a sight to see. Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, and yes even poor ol’ Robin. Pull on those tights and lace those capes or come as your fav villain. This will be a beautiful disaster!

WARPAINT / COLOR / NEON NIGHT – Find the loudest most colorful color clothes possible. Paint your face and your outfits with glow in the dark or neon paint. LED lights, glow sticks, or fluorescent paint. It’s a rave gone weird! Perfect for a MARS show.

Kerrang! 30 Seconds to Mars get unplugged

30 Seconds To Mars treated a handful of fans to an intimate acoustic rooftop show at the historic Hollywood Tower in Los Angeles on March 18.
"The rooftop show was epic," Jared tells K!. "It was strange and fun to be back at 'home' for a quick moment and good to see old friends and new faces. I remember I used to drive by that beautiful old dilapidated building years ago when I first got to Hollywood. I never thought one day I'd be playing a top it. Another unforgettable experience and a hell of a way to enjoy a sunset!"
Check out photos from the event here.

MTV's Musical March Madness: 30 Seconds To Mars Vs. Pearl Jam

It's MTV's second annual Musical March Madness! MTV News took the 64 biggest names in rock, split them up into four regions, assigned them seeds and puts them up against one another in a single-elimination series of match-ups in a winner-take-all contest. We're leaving it to you to decide an actual champ in this field of 64, so over the next few weeks, fan voting will determine who will emerge as this year's champion. It's all about the fans, and the artist with the most passionate fan base will score the awesome Musical March Madness trophy!
There are already some upsets brewing in the second round of MTV's Musical March Madness tournament, and we have only opened up the voting on one region of the bracket. Today we take a look at the wild, wild West, which features four absolutely massive showdowns between some of the top-selling bands in the rock world.
Voting for all second round match-ups will close on Sunday, March 27 at midnight. As always, you can follow all the voting here.
(1) 30 Seconds to Mars vs. (8) Pearl Jam
In the first round, Yellowcard put up a good fight but were ultimately no match for the power of 30 Seconds to Mars (and the considerable participation of both the band members and the Echelon). They'll be taking on a very game Pearl Jam team in round two. Pearl Jam went blow for blow with Train for a while in round one, but ultimately they built a solid lead and held on to it for the duration of the voting. Can they mount a similar offense, or will Jared Leto's band power their way into the Sweet 16? Only your votes can determine the winner!

30 Seconds to Mars Penthouse Show

30 Seconds to Mars Performance Pics

What a show! What can I say from the moment that I got in line to get in I could already hear people getting turned away. There were so many fans waiting in line at 6:00PM and the show didn't start until 7:00PM. It was actually very heart breaking to see some of the fans get turned away but from what I could see it was already packed.

When I got to the patio the vibe was really chill. The DJ was playing some classics while people were eating, hanging out and drinking. The food was really good! They had tacos, quesadillas and chips and salsa. Everybody I mean everybody was taking advantage of the free food, there was not one person that didn't have a plate in their hand.

By 6:30 the place was pretty much packed with all different kinds of people, mostly guys actually. It was to the point where I couldn't walk without bumping into people. Surprisingly when I went to go get more chips, there was still food and people in line to get food.

The DJ was consistent in playing music that everyone was really jamming to, I could see people by the couches in the lounge area bobbing their heads so the DJ was doing a good job. The DJ was playing from
Nirvana to Bob Marley, so it was really chill.

By 6:50 the place was as packed as it could get, there was no room to walk and everyone was pretty much ready to see the band. Everyone got moved to the patio where the band was actually going to perform at 7:00 and everyone sat around the stage, there were even people watching from the balcony up top. Josh came out and introduced himself and announced that the band would come out shortly.

The band was very quick at coming out and when they did the crowd went crazy, that's when I really knew that there were actually girls around because I could hear them screaming once Jared Leto came out. Only Jared and Tomo Milicevic came out to the stage. Shannon Leto was there but he wasn't on stage. As soon as Jared came out he started coughing and told everyone that he was really sick and to not get close to him. He's actually a pretty funny guy, he was joking the whole time.

Jared and Josh talked for a bit about how Jared felt about coming home and being sick while performing and Jared said that he didn't really mind, at least they didn't cancel. Jared then asked the crowd what song they wanted them to play and the crowd started screaming a whole bunch on different songs but the one that stood out the most was "Hurricane" so he sang that one first. That crowd started singing along with him to the point where he stopped singing and the crowd took over. He didn't completely sing the whole song he just did a short version of it.

After that song, Josh asked him another question which was "How was it traveling to Haiti" and Jared said that he always loved Haiti and loved that the people there always managed to be so sweet and a true inspiration. That got him talking about the book that he wrote, which is called, "Plan for Haiti" and it basically talks about his journey of going to Haiti when he was a little kid to now. He's also going back to Haiti help and raise money. After that he sang "Alibi" and it was a slower song so everyone was really quiet and he didn't really like that so he stopped singing it and said he wasn?t going to sing anymore if no one else sang with him. The crowd then started saying "No! Keep singing" So then he started singing "From Yesterday" and the crowd really responded to that song. Jared had a smile on his face and said "That's what I'm talking about."

30 Seconds to Mars Performance Pics

Josh then asked him the last question which was "When are they going to start recording again?" Jared basically responded that there was a lot going on right now with touring in different countries, from Europe to Asia to back to the US. He said that they were probably going to be touring until September so they were pretty busy with their schedule. Jared also said that he's written about a hundred songs but none of which he thought were worthy to be on an album.

The band then started playing "Kings and Queens" and everybody I mean everybody was singing this song. Jared started off by saying that he wanted the crowd to start the song with "woows" because the beginning of the song starts with them "woowing" (if that makes sense) so they crowd went crazy with that, it was pretty awesome to experience. Even Jared was surprised at how the crowd reacted. Then after that they finished with "War" and everyone really responded to that as well.

None of the songs he sang were full songs, they were just versions of the songs. After that everyone lined up to take pictures with band. The line was pretty long but it went really fast. I thought it was really neat that everyone was able to take pictures with the band. Other than the fact that it was really cold it was awesome! The fans really liked it and were really supportive of the band. It was a really great show!

MTV's Musical March Madness: 30 Seconds To Mars Vs. Yellowcard

On Monday (March 14), MTV's Musical March Madness launched with the Midwest bracket. Today (Tuesday, March 15), we move into the West, where some of the biggest names in music reside. Each of the 16 artists contained within the West bracket could win this tournament, but only the votes of the fans will decide who moves on and who stays home.
A reminder: First round voting continues through Sunday night (March 20), and you can catch up with any match-ups you might have missed here.
(1) 30 Seconds to Mars vs. (16) Yellowcard
The men of 30 Seconds to Mars earned themselves a number one seed in this year's tournament through consistent performances and dominance over the competition. Plus, they have one of the strongest fan bases in all of music (that would be the Echelon, which guitarist Tomo Milicevic shouted out in his Musical March Madness promo video). In the opposite corner, Yellowcard are back from their hiatus, have a new album called When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes and seem primed to get back to the top of the rock world. Will 30 Seconds to Mars be their first conquest on the comeback? You vote to decide!

The 20 Hardest Working Band of 2010

There are lots of ways to measure hard work in this business.  But the road is often where the blood, sweat and tears come out.  And according to data compiled by Songkick and shared with Digital Music News, these were the artists putting in the longest hours and most miles away from home last year.
30 Seconds to Mars are 14° in this data.

Shannon Leto Interview on V Music - Intervista a Shannon Leto su V Music

30 Seconds to Mars drummer Shannon Leto takes some time out from touring the world to chat about hosting dress-up nights, making epic videos, playing festivals and the future.

How has the tour been going?

It’s going great, man.
How did the idea for having different theme nights on the tour come about?
We’ve always been interested in doing things a little different, getting the participation of our audience, sharing the experience and making it meaningful. And just having fun.
Have the audience been getting into the themes?
Oh yeah, people have been getting into it. We had “White Night”, we’ve had “Doctor Night”, where people are dressed up as nurses and doctors, we’ve had “Hurricane” night, that was interesting. You know what I’m talking about, right?
Yep, bet there were a lot of S&M style outfits that night. Speaking of the ‘Hurricane’ clip, was the reaction to it what you hoped it would be?
You know, it’s everything that I thought it would be. Well, I didn’t think it would get banned, but people are gonna see the video if they want to see the video, because it’s on the internet. The unrated and the rated version are on there, and it’s really all about the internet right now anyways. I love the video, my brother did an amazing job. He’s the most creative and dedicated person I know and he really made an awesome short film.
Are you planning any more short films like ‘Hurricane’?
Yeah, there’s always plans and ideas that we want to implement, but right now we’re just focusing on touring.
What do you like about festivals like Soundwave?
I love festivals. I love playing at a place where there’s a bunch of bands. It allows us the opportunity to play in front of a lot people we wouldn’t normally play in front of. It’s a big party, everyone’s having a great time.
What festival moments really stand out for you?
One of the first festivals we played was Rock Am Ring, that was pretty amazing - 130,000 people singing our song was pretty epic. With their fists up in the air. There’s some of that in our video ‘Closer to the Edge’. Pretty unbelievable, man. Festivals overall can be really, really exciting. The energy’s like no other. Of course when you’re headlining your own show that’s the ultimate as well.
Speaking of ‘Closer to the Edge’, that was another grand idea for a video, how important is the visual element to what you do?
It is very, very important. We’re a very visual band. We’re not just a couple of guys up there playing instruments, you know. Everything is important to us, from the lighting, to the show, to the sound of the show, to the recording of the album, to the visual artwork of the CDs, to our online services, to our videos - I mean, everything.
The ‘Closer to the Edge’ clip seems to show that your crossing over into new levels of popularity all the time - have you noticed this on tour?
I think we’re so caught up in the inner workings of the tour that it’s kind of hard to see that type of thing, but we definitely have felt the growth over the years. We definitely have felt the evolution. It’s really exciting to us. I still have the thinking that I’m in a garage practicing, so I’m grateful for everything that’s going on right now. First of all, I never even thought I’d have a song on the radio. It’s pretty cool, man. It’s pretty cool.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
You know what? I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll start playing drums on the street, mix it up a little bit. I’ll just be out there with my shirt off in the middle of summer. You know, with a bucket out there, me playing on different, uh, things. But really I just want to keep doing what we’re doing. I just want to keep creating. That’s when I’m the most happy, is when I’m creating music.
Are you working on any new material at the moment?
A little bit. We’re just starting to, right now.
As a drummer do you constantly keep a beat in your head?
You know, it depends. Sometimes there’s a beat rolling around, sometimes there’s no beat. I don’t have a constant drum solo goin’ on my head though!
Is it true you practice 6 to 7 hours a day?
Yeah, I’ve been known to do that but I haven’t been doing it lately. But yeah, I used to just go, go, go, go, go, go.
Finally, working with a sibling can go wrong for some bands, like Oasis, but you seem to really enjoy working with Jared still. Is that the case?
Yeah absolutely, we have a great working relationship. We don’t get caught up in the ridiculousness of things. We know how to give each other space and we’ve been doing it for a while, so it’s all good.
Jed Ahern

State progettando altri brevi film come quello di "Hurricane" ?
Io amo i Festival.
Indimenticabile, uomo.
E' molto, molto importante.
State lavorando su nuovi materiali adesso ?
Giusto un po'. Abbiamo appena iniziato, proprio ora.
